My boyfriend is having doubts and moved out. Should I hold on to hope or move on?

My boyfriend and I have been together for nearly 5 years. We have lived together for the last three years. We recently bought a house together, but the last week of December he moved out and said that he is unsure if our relationship is going anywhere and that he feels hopeless in all aspects of his life...including our relationship. I am still completely in love with him. I feel like he is my soul-mate. He is the single person I think about or desire to be with. I have given him space since he moved out, and last week he we spent time together, and actually made love. Afterwards, he said he loved me and was so glad that I was back, and he basically gave me the impression that we were going to rise above the ashes of our relationship. THAN, the following day he was acting strangely around me and saying the same things as before about him being unsure, and he wasn't coming back unless he knew for sure. He is confusing me, and living me in a state of turmoil. I want him more than anything, but am I wasting my time? Isn't it an easy decision to make, either you want to move on together or not? I am willing to fight for this, but am I fighting a losing battle?
